Masseter botox is a toxin treatment applied to the chewing muscles in the jaw area. Masseter muscles control jaw closing and chewing functions. These muscles sometimes become overactive, which can cause the jaw to appear square or wide. Masseter botox can be used for aesthetic reasons or to treat medical problems such as clenching/grinding (bruxism).
Toxin application helps to temporarily weaken the muscles and thus reduce the chewing power of the jaw, reduce teeth grinding and give the jaw lines a slimmer appearance. The procedure takes a few minutes and the feeling of pain is minimal. Results become apparent within 8-10 days and last for approximately 4-6 months.
However, as with any medical procedure, masseter botox may have side effects. Therefore, if you are considering this procedure, it is important to consult your doctor first. Your doctor can determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you and explain possible risks.
